We need internal part numbers for every single part of our satellite. Part numbers are an industry standard for accurate, consistent, unambiguous parts and assembly identification. A quick Google search will give you more info on part numbers and their importance.
This page is used to explain the formatting of part numbers for FINCH. This page can be used when generating a part number or to learn more.
All part numbers for Finch consist of 8 numbers, hyphenated as shown below. Please consider each character as a placeholder
The following lines explain how each collection of characters split my hyphens
XX- Info on the mission and if this part is custom or designed externally. The number for the FINCH mission is 2. A custom part is denoted by 1, and a non-custom part is denoted by 2.
A part that starts with 21-, is a FINCH part that is custom-made
AAA- Categorizes these parts by the assembly or general subsystem. These letters are an abbreviation of the subsystem or assembly this part is used for. Specifically the battery pack, OBC board, mechanical, etc.
