Welcome to IT! The IT team is responsible for all computer-related services that the team might need. Our goal is to stay as hidden as possible – usually, IT is most noticed when things go wrong!

IT Services
What does IT do?
IT hosts a number of services across our servers. Our services can be roughly divided into two categories: team-wide resources and subsystem specific resources.
Team-Wide Resources
- Confluence Wiki: ex-Notion, our old knowlegebase. Kept for historical reference, since not everything made it to Notion in one piece.
- CAD Server: A somewhat powerful computer that has a number of CAD programs available for members to use. Intended to be used for computationally complex tasks that might overwhelm a personal computer.
- UTATSS VPN: A virtual private network (VPN) that allows members to remotely connect to our services.
- UTATRK Wiki: For some reason, we also host the UTAT Rocketry Wiki. Not sure if they still use it, or why we even have it in the first place, but it sure is there.
- Slack Export Viewer: A record of all public communication that’s happened on Slack, even after 90 days.
Subsystem Specific Resources
- SVN: Sub VersioN control for the Electrical subsystem. Used as version control for Altium and all things circuits.
- Altium DB: Database containing the various parts that we use in Altium drawings.
- NX License Server: Provides floating licenses for Siemens NX, a powerful (and expensive) CAD program. Used for thermal and mechanical simulations and modelling.
- CODE V License Server: Provides floating licenses for Synopsis' CODE V optical design software, a powerful (and frighteningly even more expensive) CAD program. Used for optical simulations and modelling.
Servers
In order to provide these servers, we currently have three servers that are operated and maintained by IT.
- 1U Server: When you think of what a server looks like, this is it. Rack-mountable, loud, powerful. PowerEdge R300 running Ubuntu, Intel Xeon X3323, 12GB DDR2, fans stuck on for some reason (old IT lead soldered the fans permanently to 5V).
- CAD Server: New, shiny, has a tempered glass side panel. Intel i7-9700K, 32GB RAM, GTX 770, runs Windows Server.
