The Server

It’s a Acer Aspire S with a power adapter that’s been e-taped on, a USB-Ethernet adapter, and the hopes and dreams of millions keeping it together (yeah actually it’s just me). It runs Ubuntu Desktop 22.04 and has various SDR tools installed.

Importantly, it has a USB hub that connects to: 2x HackRF (connected together with coax + 20dB attenuator) and an Arduino. Have fun!

Connecting to the server

  1. Have a VPN credentials. Message #it if you don’t have them (OpenVPN)
  2. Use your favorite RDP client to connect to [heron-gnd.in.utat.ca](<http://heron-gnd.in.utat.ca>):5901 (heron/HeronMkII)
    1. DNS issues got you down? Try 10.0.1.174 10.0.7.38 (for now; this will change).
  3. Celebrate!

Error and Bugs

If you encounter any problems and figure out a way to solve it, please add it here so that others can resolve things quicker!

Stuck in login screen

Reset the USB hub by running sudo uhubctl to get a list of valid devices and then sudo uhubctl -l 1-1 -R -a cycle to power cycle the hub (assuming 1-1 is the targeted hub)
