Below are onboarding projects categorized based on what projects you are interested in. You are always welcomed to do more. Also, it is recommended to do the Attitude Planning tutorial project whether you are joining that project or not, because it gives you a better understanding of basic ADCS knowledge such as orbital dynamics, etc.

Attitude Planning

  1. Follow this tutorial style project to set up a basic ADCS simulation, which should give you a better idea of orbital dynamics and some other related concepts.
  2. Read this page and the sub-pages linked inside to get a general idea of what the attitude planning project is about.

You could also start learning STK: STK - if you are interested, it would be helpful for future work related to attitude planning.

AIT + Testing Procedure

After the onboarding presentation, which would tell you what components we have in the ADCS module we purchased, there are some data sheets and previous test plans people wrote that we will carry out - read those.

  1. Read these to get a general idea of AIT project: Testing Ideas & ADCS Testing Protocol
  2. Go to component compendium on Notion, find ADCS-10m datasheet, FSS-15 & FSS-15M datasheet, EGSE (ground station) read those.
  3. After you are done, let the lead know

Helmholtz Cage (Choose 1 from below)

Or you can always do more if you want to! :)

  1. Get your student MATLAB account running if you haven’t used it before. Go here and click the “Get MATLAB” button on the left box, “Campus-Wide Access”.
  2. Go to this MATLAB page that has a PID controller tutorial with an example problem to walk through. We will use PID controller in the Helmholtz Cage.
  1. Option 1: This video walks you through what PWM is, which is something we will use in the Helmholtz Cage. Follow this tutorial’s lightbulb project up to the point of prototyping a PCB. (Stop there!)
  2. Option 2: If you want to play with Arduino, you can follow this tutorial
