What is it?
It’s a computer! That you (yes, you) can use!

RAM |
32GB DDR4-3200 (2x16GB) |
Storage |
1TB SSD |

Access
To access the server, you must first be on the UTAT VPN: OpenVPN
Connect to the server by using the Windows Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP).
- For Windows, you can use the default installed app “Remote Desktop Connection”
- For MacOS, you can use the Microsoft Remote Desktop app (now called Windows App because Microsoft loves to be confusing)
- Hit the plus arrow, and then add a PC. The PC name is
10.0.1.161
- For Linux, Yong Da recommends Remmina
The computer is at 10.0.1.161

⚠️ If someone is logged into an account on the server, and you remote connect into the server on the same account, you will kick out the original person without any warning.
If you’re working normally and suddenly get kicked out, someone else likely logged in. Message #it on Slack if this happens to resolve your differences.
Usage Notes
- 🚧. If you want other people to be able to access files, don’t put them in user folders!
- Don’t put in C:\Users\optics02\Documents\MATLAB
- Instead put in C:\GitHub\spacesys-finch
- If you plan on using the CAD machine for a really large simulation and/or planning on using a lot of processor threads for your simulation, particularly for those running simulations in NX, please message the #it channel on Slack to let everyone know when you've started your simulation and when you've finished. **For this reason, if you plan on using the CAD machine at all, please join the #it channel so that you're notified when others are running large simulations. ****This is to avoid having other people experience performance issues while using the CAD machine as your simulation is running. It's recommended that you run any large
simulations overnight to avoid taking up the machine during the day, when others may be more likely to use it.
- When you're running a simulation, don't log off of the computer or you'll lose your progress. Instead, go to Power > Disconnect to disconnect from remote desktop, and keep the account logged on.
