The following videos are being created for the Structures and Thermal subsystems for vibration and thermal simulations. As there is a lot of crossover, some videos are geared to both disciplines. Members are encouraged to download the GrabCAD files below each tutorial and follow along.
0 - How to set up Siemens NX 1915
Relevant to both disciplines
A video tutorial of the Siemens NX installation instructions
Note: Even though this tutorial involved installing NX 1915, the steps are still applicable to the latest version of NX used by the team.
1 - Basic Assembly and Meshing
A Note on Importing Files:
While the method of importing parts that's shown in the tutorial is perfectly valid, a far faster way of doing this is to save your SolidWorks assembly as a .stp file and import that into NX. This will allow you to open up your entire assembly in NX with all the parts positioned exactly as they are in SolidWorks - no mating required. Once you import your .stp assembly file into NX, NX generates a .prt file for your assembly as well as all the parts contained within it, and all of these files will be stored in the same folder as your assembly .stp file. For your assembly to load in NX properly, all of the generated .prt files must remain in the same folder.
Depending on what version of SolidWorks you created your parts with, your .sldprt or .sldasm files may not be compatible with NX. By converting your assembly or part file into a .stp file, you avoid this issue.
