This section covers the steps, deadlines, and contacts relevant to all licensing for FINCH. Broadly, there are four licenses and one ground station site approval that the team will need to obtain.
- Export License: for permission to export to the United States/another country for launch
- Remote Sensing License: for permission to image over Canada
- Satellite Frequency License: for permission to communicate with the satellite
- Ground Station Frequency License: for permission to perform telemetry, tracking, and control (TT&C) with the satellite using our ground station
- Site Approval for a Fixed Earth Station: provides us with the authority to operate an Earth station authorized by a spectrum license (item #4 above)
This is because of the following FINCH requirements:
- The ability to communicate in a wireless manner using radio frequency communication
- The ability to passively and remotely sense and quantify SWIR radiation from the Earth
Both of these activities are heavily regulated.
