Description
Our Build I optomechanical setup consists of mounts attached to posts attached to post holders attached to rail sliders attached to an optical rail. We are exploring the possibility of using Thorlab’s mini-series optical posts to allow us to bring the optical elements as close together as we need to evaluate their performance.
There does not appear to be a compatible post holder for these mini-series posts. The only post-holders there are are either pedestal or swivel base, neither of which have tapped holes at the bottom where a setscrew could attach the post holder to the dovetail rail slider. The reason the post-holder is important is so that we can adjust the height of the optical components for alignment.

Major issue: we need the system to be stable + post holders to be flush

We’re looking for a post + post-holder combo that’s compatible with mount + dovetail rail slider
- Check compatibility between post-holder and rail slider
- post-holder needs vertical degree of freedom
- Mini-series optical posts → there’s a 6 mm diameter option
- This is compatible with the mini series swivel and pedestal post holder
- You can do vertical height adjustment with this
- “For additional height adjustment, the hollow base of both types of post holders allows the Ø6 mm posts to rest on the optical table, which enables the largest possible range of post height adjustment. Please note that our Ø6 mm posts feature a 4-40 (M3) tap, making them compatible only with other Mini-Series components.”
Questions for thorlabs
- do you have a post holder that is compatible with the mini-series optical post that can be screwed into one of the RC4 dovetail rail carriers without a fork clamp? For example, a post holder with tapped holes at the bottom?
- Make sure has vertical adjustment
