A detailed description of the scope and motivation for this project, as well as any relevant resources

Create a diagram the shows the entire concept of operations for the HERON mission. This will be posted on Instagram and could also be shown at recruitment (maybe even in the form of a printed poster). The final diagram should look something like the one created by SpaceX below, but with HERON operations included as well.

Additional Mission Phases

• Want to summarise the Falcon 9 launch and deployment (Doesn’t feel like we can duplicate without getting in trouble but also who is checking us?)

• Couple ways to go about this:

  1. Can show all of this happening with Earth in the diagram: See attached PDF
  2. Can show all of this in temporal order like the SpaceX diagram, but I’m not sure how we could show the satellite orbit and operations like this (open to ideas)
  3. Can duplicate the SpaceX diagram and stick the earth on the right and show orbit: See attached PDF

• Modes of Operation for HERON (the ones relevant for mission diagram)

  1. Satellite deployment: S/C ejected by dispenser, enters into SSO at 500-550 km: can show number + approx. circular orbit
  2. Passive detumbling: Can show satellite flipping in different orientations
  3. Antenna deployment: Can show satellite silhouette, now with some sticks sticking out
  4. Establish communications: Can show some waves coming out of satellite + our ground station on the Earth
