Description
We want to have a final mechanism ready to manufacture/buy components for to ensure the deploy switch remains compressed during launch and can be released during orbit
Finish modeling by Sat Jul 26
One iteration of testing by Sat Aug 16
Tasks
-
[x] Model switch in SolidWorks more accurately
- [x] Add spring
- [x] Model rod and the pushing part separately to depict how it will be in real life
- [x] Could do some research to see how these mechanisms work
- [x] Mount the switch to the bracket
- [x] Model spring
- [ ] Model threads as well
- can’t find CAD model of the screw modelled as hole for now w/ no threads
-
[x] Figure out screw size (M2.5 vs M2.3)
- [ ] M2.3 to be safe
- want to use M2.3 screws to mount mechanism to bottom of rail near -Z panel (middle hole in 3rd pic) but the hole has diameter 2.02 mm; can this be changed?

-
[ ] Figure out board size for power based on how much space
-
[ ] Figuring out manufacturing - @Angelina Fernandes week of Jan 10
- [ ] Which components do we need (e.g. spring, screws)
- [ ] Find a spring
- 2 M2.3 screws
- Custom Parts
- piston (with space for spring)
- foot (with space for spring)
- spring chamber with threaded holes for screws
- [ ] Whether solidworks models are good for manufacturing/how we want to have them made
- [ ] Research/look into how others made their deploy switches
-
[ ] Length of components dependent on the springs available
-
[ ] Calculate force required to compress switch
-
[ ] Testing with FINCH launch conditions to see if structure stays together
- [ ] Would happen in Winter
