Introduction
The University of Toronto Aerospace Team (UTAT) Space Systems is opening the role of FEA Specialist - ANSYS ****for one year. This role is open to any full/part-time student at the University of Toronto with an interest in satellites, enthusiasm towards Space Systems’ FINCH project, and interest in joining a tight-knit, supportive, and inspiring community.
Responsibilities
- Review previous literature on the use of FEA in similar CubeSats
- Conduct Quasi-Static, Modal, Shock, Random-Vibrations, and Buckling simulations
- Review launch provider requirements, launch loads, and deployer interface specifications
- Perform or guide team members on defeaturing of CAD parts
- Define boundary conditions, loads, and thresholds for simulations
- Perform mesh refinement and check mesh integrity
- Analise results of simulations for meaninfulness, and produce visuals
- Recommend and justify changes in the mechanical design
- Manage simulation files and archive
- Assign tasks and distribute work to team members (occasionally)
Requirements
Shall
- Have experience with FEA structural simulations
- Have taken a course in mechanics of materials or have equivalent foundational knowledge
- Understand, or be willing to learn the basics of, CubeSat launch and operation environments
- Have experience writing reports and documenting work on Notion or similar workspace
- Have some experience with CAD software
