The University of Toronto Aerospace Team is looking for a new Director of Space Systems. The Director of Space Systems is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the administrative functions of UTAT-Space Systems. This includes strategic coordination with various UTAT portfolio teams, such as Regulatory, Media, Business Development (BD), Organizational Development (OD), Outreach, Finance and the Technical team. You will have an over view of the UTAT operation

People are a main part of UTAT-Space Systems, and this is what makes us so special. So the biggest responsibility of the Director is to care about the team and its people. You are responsible for connecting with leads/members and must be able to have tough conversations when needed.

As Director, you will play a key role in shaping the team's direction and fostering its growth towards becoming Canada's premier design team. Your work will inspire a new generation of students, engineers and scientists. You will gain connections with industry leaders and support the development of space technology.

Primary Responsibility

• Act as a liaison between Space Systems and the UTAT exec team (exec director, mother division directors and portfolios) by attending biweekly exec meetings
• Create a competitive strategy to compete with other divisions and design teams.
• Working with external stakeholders such as sponsors, collaborators, vendors and launch services provider
• Run leads meetings each week, to facilitate team updates/discussion exclusive to leads
• Plan and run general meetings each week, by reaching out to general members to present their projects. Ingress and Egress
• Be able to have difficult conversations when needed.
• Run leads exit windows every term, to ensure new lead application, selection and transition go smoothly
• Run the new member onboarding process each term, which includes setting the sign-up form window, responding to new member inquiries, as well as communicating with leads on their team capacities.
• Represent Space Systems at UTAT Kickoff, Clubs Fair, and other such functions
• Work with UTAT exec to campaign for Levy renewal when the time comes
• Work with the media team to advertise UTAT-Space Systems and share our work with the public.
• Stay informed on the current status of the following facets. While these responsibilities are primarily handled by other leads, it is your job to regularly check in and be ready to reabsorb them into your role if need be:
  • Regulatory
  • Finance and Business Development
  • Lab Space Management
  • Media

Secondary Responsibility

• Have personal one-on-one check-ins with your leads and be available to answer questions/talk to any member of the team
