Guidelines for new components that will be added to the UTAT Altium library.
Note: checking the boxes will show up for everyone. Copy the list if you want to check things off yourself.
Components
- [ ] Link datasheet
- [ ] Add suppliers
- [ ] All appropriate parameters added
Symbols
- [ ] Symbol grid is 100mil
- [ ] Pins start with number 1 and are exactly 200mil long
- [ ] Exposed pad should be the next available designator (ex. pin 9 on an 8-pin chip)
- [ ] Pins have a descriptive, short label from the datasheet
- [ ] Exposed pad should be labeled PAD or PAD_GND if it’s recommended that it gets tied to ground. Don’t just call it GND.
- [ ] Connector mounting elements should be MP (Mounting Pad) for SMT or MH (Mounting Hole) for TH
- [ ] Pins have the correct type (input/output/power/passive)
- [ ] Active low pins labeled correctly. Don’t use an overbar, use an ‘n’ or ‘_N’.
- [ ] Power pins in top left, ground pins on bottom right (along with PADs)
- [ ] Generally, inputs on the left and outputs on the right
- [ ] Consider the flow of data and power and try to achieve a left-to-right flow, don’t literally do input pins on the left and output pins on the left.
- [ ] Group functionally similar pins together
- [ ] Designator is a letter followed by a ‘?’ (designator reference)
- [ ] Connectors MUST use
J?, P? is only for cable ends.
- [ ] Design Item ID is same as the manufacturer part number of the component
Footprints
- [ ] Name the footprint the same as the datasheet
- [ ] Are the dimensions correct? Are you sure?
