Description
A detailed description of the scope and motivation for this project, as well as any relevant resources
Tasks
A list of sequential tasks for the project. The project is complete when all tasks are complete
- [x] Send drawings out to machine shops found in Find Machine Shops
- [x] Receive quotes
- [x] Assess relationship between quotes, budget, required tolerances, areas of design simplification.
Notes
Space for research notes, open questions, progress logs
- Sent drawings out to the following machine shops: Rapid Enterprises, MDA Ltd, Ofir Machine Shop, GTA Machining, Argon Prototypes
- Received responses from MDA Ltd and Rapid Enterprises, waiting on the others
- MDA Ltd:
- Is not able to provide us with Aluminum 2024, can only offer Aluminum 6061-T6, which we have agreed to move forward with (cheaper, easier to find)
- Asked for STEP files of parts to get a better overview of parts before providing us with a quote
- Rapid Enterprises:
- Is not able to provide us with Aluminum 2024, can only offer Aluminum 6061-T6, which we have agreed to move forward with (cheaper, easier to find)
- Provided an example of tolerances vs pricing (shown below)
- Here is an example of drilling just a 6mm hole inside a part when it comes to price vs tolerance.
Tolerance of +/-0.005mm $200
Tolerance of +/-0.025mm $90
Tolerance of +/-0.05mm $50
Tolerance of +/-0.1mm $15
- Have agreed to move forward with receiving quotes for the current tolerances that are implemented in our drawings, and will make changes if necessary to comply with our budget
- Have set up a call with a manufacturer from their team to further discuss the parts so that they can get a better understanding before providing us with an in-depth quote
- Received quote from MDA - $5,100 total
- All good by finance lead, updated manufacturing budget to say $5,500
